Bullet Journal: Combining Art and Productivity

With the range of digital planners and productivity applications available today, bullet journal stands out for those who want a more creative approach in getting their daily life together. If you are someone like me who loves creating physically on pen and paper but also need things organized and laid out with your own personal touch, then bullet journalling is perfect for you.

Personalizing your bullet journal

How you approach your bullet journal (or casually referred to as “bujo” by avid creators), is completely up to you. If you like doodling or making calligraphies, this is a great way to put your artistic flare to use. But if you’re someone who don’t have time to make any design and just want it to serve its purpose - keep things organized - then you can stick to the usual writing down of dates and tasks, which is absolutely perfect too! There’s no right or wrong way of approaching it. What really matters is that your bullet journal system works for you, saves you time, and keeps you efficient.

If you are just starting your bujo journey, staring at a blank page before you (get it? hehe) could be overwhelming. But don’t worry, there are many fun bullet journal spreads for you try and have a chance to add you personal touches to, all the while staying productive.

Fun bujo spreads to try

Let’s start with the basics. When I was starting out myself, these are the spreads I tried out to see if they work or not. Regardless, I highly recommend trying them out to see whether they work for you too (plus, it’s fun!)

Habit tracker

Want to build or maintain habits? Habit tracker is amazing at doing that, and you can add a splash of creativity while you’re at it. It’s main purpose is to really help you with your habits. Whether you need to build new ones or get rid of bad ones, it’s here to help you be better day by day. Below is one set up of a habit tracker that I like the most.

Gratitude log

A really great way to keep you grounded, positive, and grateful, a gratitude log encourages you to write down what you are thankful for for the day. It’s main purpose is to get you to reflect on how your day went and see the bright side of things, no matter how bad of a day you had. You can either do this at the start of the day or just before you sleep, whichever is more convenient for you.

Braindump

Whenever your mind feels cluttered and just want to dump every little thing the voice inside your head is telling you to do, a braindump page is here to save the day! I personally find this very useful, especially if I am going to take on a new project or event and have no idea where to start. I would usually layout my notebook and just start writing all the to-do’s that I know I have to do but not entirely sure when, where, or how to do each one yet. It has got to be my favourite page or feature of a bullet journal. Once you try it, you’ll understand why I love it so much. Trust me, you head will feel so much lighter once you braindump it all! (And yes, this page is probably the most simple looking spread of all, but I find it most effective when it’s clutter-free)

Bullet journal is super fun and creative way to keep you and your mind more organized. There are lots of content creators out there as well to help you get started. Many even provide a walkthrough on how they set up your bullet journal. Who got me started and hooked to it was AmandaRachLee, highly recommend you checking her out. Without her videos, I wouldn’t be as organized and talking to you now about bullet journals!
